On a day-to-day basis, you might not think much about your jewellery and what it's exposed to. But if you want to preserve the original shiny appearance of your jewellery, it's a good idea to be aware of the situations you should avoid. In short, it's all about:

• You don't expose your jewellery to hard knocks and blows.
• Your jewellery does not come into contact with chemicals.
• Avoid wearing jewellery when bathing or washing your hands.
• You do not sleep with your jewellery on.
• Store your jewellery separately in a jewellery box or bag.

Our jewellery is made from 100% recycled sterling silver or 22 carat gold-plated 925 sterling silver. The precious metals are soft and cannot withstand hard knocks - to prolong the durability of the coating, it is therefore important that you take care of your jewellery. Solid jewellery made of silver, such as our signet rings, can easily collide with other surfaces, which can cause scratches. Scratches and dents are not seen as damaged jewellery, but simply signs of normal use - but they should be avoided as much as possible.

Our natural stones are also sensitive. We encourage you to be careful not to hit hard surfaces or expose the stones to chemicals. This will cause the stone in your ring or necklace to lose its lustre.

Finally, we also recommend that you remove your jewellery before washing your hands or bathing and when using creams, perfumes or hair products. If you don't, you risk your jewellery losing its beautiful shine and becoming dull.

We also recommend that you remove your jewellery when you sleep and that you store your jewellery in your IX STUDIOS jewellery box or jewellery bag when not in use. Store your jewellery separately so that they don't scratch each other or get tangled.

What our jewellery has in common is that it is made from pure precious metals, which means that it has the potential to stay beautiful for many years with the right treatment - but also that it can't withstand just anything. Therefore, do not use cleaning agents that are not approved for the specific type of precious metal you are cleaning, and never scrub jewellery with coarse cloths or cleaning sponges, for example. It's hard to avoid silver becoming oxidised and darker in colour over time. This happens because silver reacts with the oxygen in the air, so you can reduce oxidation by storing your silver jewellery in a jewellery box. However, your silver jewellery will eventually need cleaning.

When you need to clean your silver jewellery, whether it's a pair of earrings or a silver chain, the best thing to do is to use our jewellery cleaner and follow the instructions on the package. If you don't have an approved jewellery cleaner available, we recommend using a soft, damp cloth to remove oils and other dirt. When using a soft cloth, you don't risk making annoying scratches in your jewellery - remember that silver is a relatively soft material that can get scratched if not treated with care.

When cleaning gold jewellery, there is a difference between gold-plated jewellery and solid gold jewellery.

Our gold-plated jewellery consists of 925 sterling silver underneath the gold layer. When polishing gold-plated jewellery, you need to be careful not to damage the surface and put too much wear and tear on the gold plating. Therefore, a good tip is to use a soft, damp cloth in the same way as with silver jewellery. This is the most gentle way to clean your jewellery.

If the jewellery is solid gold, you can add a small amount of washing-up liquid when you clean it with a damp cloth. However, we recommend using our jewellery cleaner - just be extra careful if your jewellery is also decorated with natural stone, for example, which can be damaged by the jewellery cleaner. Make sure that the stone does not come into contact with the cleaner, and it is important to remove all residues of cleaner after polishing with warm water.
